Indonesia Declares Emergency on Violence Against Women, Children

Jakarta, VoxPop – The Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, stated that Indonesia is currently in a state of emergency regarding sexual violence against women and children.
"We declare a state of emergency for sexual violence against women and children," said minister Fauzi in Jakarta on Monday (Dec 16).
The minister emphasized the importance of synergy and collaboration across ministries and agencies in preventing and addressing violence against women and children.

"Coordination and synergy are key. We cannot resolve this issue alone. Our authority and budget are limited. However, with awareness and a collective willingness to address this issue together, we can make progress," she remarked.
According to Minister Fauzi, resolving issues of violence against women and children is crucial, considering that women make up nearly half of Indonesia's population, at 49.42 percent, while children account for 31.6 percent.
"Women and children are the foundation of the nation, the foundation within families. Therefore, empowering women and protecting children are strategic priorities to support the vision of a Golden Indonesia by 2045," she stated.
The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection has introduced three priority programs to promote women's empowerment and child protection in line with the goals for a Golden Indonesia by 2045.
These three programs are Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI), the expansion of the Sahabat Perempuan dan Anak (SAPA) 129 service, and strengthening the One Data for Women and Children initiative, which is based in villages.
