10 Top Horror Books for Your Reading List
- U-Report
VoxPop – Horror books have been part of the literary world for years, many people are realizing just how satisfying it is to settle into a scary story, feel the rush of adrenaline, and then close the book and of course, a story can be terrifying without necessarily being great art.
Here are 10 books which present many terrifying stories and are guaranteed to make the reader get carried away in the horror story.
1. Essential Tales and Poems by Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe is known as a great writer in detective stories and horror fiction, he has a talent for instilling a deep sense of fear in all of his writings. The characters and narrator tend to be fragile and mentally deranged, a manifestation of abnormal thought processes.
Behind his popularity as an American writer who likes to write dark stories, Poe also has a dark life story such as being underestimated, feeling lost, frustrated, all of which Poe has experienced. In this book, Poe capitalizes on everyone's fears and says that the world and the people around us are not the same as we see.
2. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
House of Leaves is one of the scariest books ever written.
From a fairly standard horror premise (revealing the inside of a house) Danielewski spins a dizzying tale involving multiple narrators who are a little difficult to understand, typographical mysteries and repetitive footnotes that manage to drag readers into the story and then make them doubt their own perceptions of the story.
It's a trick no one else has ever done with such dramatic effect, is a participatory experience than any other piece of literature that remembers dark madness at its core, not necessarily a pleasant one.
3. Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin, Otto Penzler
Rosemary (Mia Farrow), moves into an apartment in New York with her actor husband, Guy Woodhouse (John Cassavetes). After a long struggle to have children, Rosemary finally gets pregnant.
