FIFA Considers Reviving Confederations Cup with 8-Team Format

Jakarta, VoxPop – FIFA is reportedly considering reviving the FIFA Confederations Cup with a new format.
The tournament, which was discontinued after its 2017 edition, is planned to return every four years but with a slimmer lineup, only eight national teams will participate.
Previously known as a warm-up tournament before the FIFA World Cup, the Confederations Cup is now being proposed as a prestigious standalone event, bringing together continental champions from across the globe.

Proposed List of Participants:
• Argentina (World Cup Champion)
• Spain (EURO Champion)
• Portugal (UEFA Nations League Champion)
• Colombia (Copa América Finalist, replacing Argentina who qualified as World Champion)
• Mexico (Gold Cup Champion)
• Qatar (Asian Cup Champion)
• Ivory Coast (Africa Cup of Nations Champion)
• New Zealand (Oceania Cup Champion)
Notably, Colombia has been invited as a South American representative, taking Argentina's spot since the latter already qualifies as the World Cup winner.
This opens the door for Colombia to participate despite "only" reaching the Copa América final.
The eight-team format promises a high level of competition, showcasing only the best from each confederation.
While no official date has been announced for the first edition of the new-format tournament, the revival plan has already captured the interest of football fans around the world.
